North East Visits | Hop & Cleaver

Hop & Cleaver is somewhere me and my boyfriend were dying to try as soon as we heard about it opening near the Quayside not long ago. The building is amazing, old brick and beams with lots of stylish fitting furniture. Specialising in lots of different beers, my boyfriend tried one called Camden Gentlemen's Wit which he loved, but there was a massive selection. I went for the Banana & Butterscotch shake, no words needed!

We shared potato skins for a starter, the portion was huge, glad we shared! The skins were crispy and smothered in cheese sauce, topped with spring onions and stilton, they were amazing, I honestly could've had it as a main!

For mains I went for the Mac & Cheese which came with Texas toast, slaw and I ordered a side of sweet potato fries. I totally loved this, was so filling I had to take half home! My boyfriend had one of the crates and tried the Beef Brisket one, it came with Texas toast and he chose sides of skin on fries and garlic mash with smokehouse gravy, he absolutely loved this too!

We had a really nice meal here, food and drinks were top notch and the staff were all very friendly and attentive too. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. We loved the decor and the atmosphere of this restaurant and will definitely be returning!

  1. Oh my word! Everything looks amazing! This is not good for my diet & I must resist!
Not only the food, but the venue looks to die for too. We need some really cool spots like this near us now. Come to Leeds Burger & Hop!

It's nice to read a good review for Hop & Cleaver because I've heard so many bad things since it opened. We attended the launch night which was a disaster and after that it seemed to be bad review after bad review. Hopefully they've sorted out the teething problems now! We've been for a drink and loved the interior so we might think about heading back for food now :)

    1. I didn't hear anything bad or I probably wouldn't have gone haha, just had a look on tripadvisor and was mostly good, I didn't know it had any problems at first! You should give it another go, can't speak for any other days but it was lovely when we went :) x

So many lush places in Newcastle, have you tried the Japanese opposite the Theatre Royal, it's called Osaka? The food is incredible, I'm a Japanese convert now!
