North East Visits | NE1 Restaurant Week | Miller & Carter Steakhouse

For the first Restaurant Week of 2016 and a lot of deliberation and checking out menus, me and my boyfriend decided to try Miller & Carter Steakhouse who were offering 2 courses for £15. Not a bad deal when normally one of their steaks is £14! It's not often that you'll spot a vegetarian running to a steakhouse, but their veggie option actually sounded really nice and who am I to deprive my boyfriend of a steak?!

For starters I went for the nachos, which I'll be honest, weren't great. They were covered in a powdered seasoning which made them super dry, the cheese had obviously been grilled for far too long and was cemented on the plate, I've had better in pubs! However my boyfriend ordered the BBQ glazed chicken wings with a blue cheese dip and he really enjoyed them!

For mains I was hoping they would redeem themselves and they really did, I went for their veggie option, roast cherry tomato gnocchi with grilled goats cheese and asparagus. It was so so tasty! It definitely wasn't a let down! My boyfriend obviously went for the 8oz rump steak served with chips, a lettuce wedge, onion and a choice of sauces. Steven even went as far to say it was one of the best steaks he's ever had, for a steakhouse, you wouldn't expect any less! He said that it was cooked perfectly for him, super tender and the sauces were delicious.

We were considering a pudding but we sat waiting for the waiter for what seemed like a lifetime before finally just asking for the bill. Overall I wasn't blown away by Miller & Carter, I reckon my boyfriend enjoyed his meal more than me, although I'm still dreaming about that gnocchi! I liked that they didn't scrimp on the portion sizes, which I've sometimes noticed with Restaurant Week deals, but I'm not sure I would be in a hurry to return!
