North East Visits | Valentine's Day at Browns & Motel One Newcastle

Valentine's Day, you either love it or you hate it! I'm a total sucker for anything novelty, so obviously I love Valentine's Day! Me and Steven just use it as an excuse to have a night away with drinks and food! I also use it as an excuse to make little gifts, this year I made Steven a hamper as you can see, with super cute ideas I found on Pinterest, I'll do a whole post on it at some point! Steven got me a gorgeous bouquet of a dozen red roses and an amazing box of Valentine's chocolates from Hotel Chocolat, the boy knows me well!

This year we decided to just have a night in Newcastle, we didn't want to spend a bomb on a hotel so we decided on Motel One on High Bridge Street, so it was super central. It hasn't been open long and the motto of the hotel is "luxury budget". We only paid £70 for the night and were really pleased at how lovely the hotel was. The lobby and bar area was super stylish, the whole hotel was really modern. The rooms were basic but had nice touches like the bedding etc.

The lad on the reception said they were giving all the women roses since it was Valentine's Day, which I thought was so cute! We also somehow ended up with a voucher for two glasses of Prosecco from the bar, when we booked it was £10 more for the voucher but we didn't choose that option as it seemed a bit expensive, so it was probably a mistake, but I wasn't complaining!

So onto our meal at Browns, we've been here a couple of times before and it's always really nice, it was also literally around the corner from the hotel. The Valentine's menu was £29 for 3 courses, which I thought was super reasonable, we saw some for more than £50. There was also a deal on where if you preordered a bottle of champagne you would get a free set of gorgeously decorated champagne glasses, which we did.

We both started with the Smoked Salmon, it was a really decent sized portion and was super tasty. Steven got the steak for his main (obviously!) which he really enjoyed and I went for the Seafood Linguine, it came with salmon, mussels and prawns, it was delicious, a great choice! For puds Steven chose the Salted Caramel Profiteroles, he was in a state of pure bliss while eating these! I went for the Trio of Chocolate, a white chocolate mousse, chocolate hazelnut ice cream and a chocolate fondant, honestly I was in a chocolate coma, it was so good! As always with Browns, the service is amazing and the food is too! After a bottle of champagne in the room, a glass of Prosecco in the hotel, another bottle of champagne at the restaurant along with a cocktail, we stumbled along to Pleased To Meet You to finish off our night with a final cocktail.

What did you get up to on Valentine's Day?

Motel One sounds lovely, I haven't even been for a nose yet, I'll have to make a date. I love a staycation, especially in Newcastle. We really need to do more!
