North East Visits | NE1 Restaurant Week | Lane 7 Newcastle

Ever since Lane 7 have been involved in restaurant week, I've always put them on my narrowed down list of ones to visit, they always have a decent sized menu and it's always a great deal, but until now we haven't had a chance to visit and this time we're really glad we did! I haven't eaten here before and only visited when the North East Blogger Awards was held here (I won Best New Blog, shameless self promotion!).

We booked a table at 7pm and were surprised that it wasn't busier, however towards the end of the night the place was packed! There's a nice fun vibe here, not the place for a romantic meal! But they've got good music on and it's a nice lively atmosphere. We ordered our drinks and perused the menu (not like I hadn't looked at it a million times on the restaurant week website!). It's probably the biggest restaurant week menu I've seen with loads of different choices, all equally yummy! It's also really great value for money at £10 for 3 courses!

For starters I decided on the Popcorn Squid, I'm a sucker for anything cooked in salt and pepper and this was also served with garlic mayo, so obviously it was a winner! I've had crispy squid in the past where it was more soggy than crispy! As well as it being super chewy, but this wasn't at all the case, it was full of flavour, crispy outside and soft but not rubbery in the middle! Steven decided on the Mac n Cheese Bites, he was singing their praises and for once I could try some of his food! They were so cheesy and gooey in the middle but super crisp on the outside!

For mains I went for the Cheese Press, a grilled cheese with dijon mustard, smoked cheese and pickles (I'm having a real pickle moment at the minute!), squished on sourdough, served with fries. I was so impressed with this, it really was so yummy and they didn't at all scrimp on portion size which some restaurants are guilty of during restaurant week! The fries were just how I like them, thin and crispy! Steven went for the Chicken Sammich and was crazy enough to double it up for an extra £3, it was huge! The fried chicken came with house sun dried tomatoes, chorizo, smoked cheese, lettuce, Sriracha mayo, served on focaccia. He really enjoyed this too and it almost defeated him! It looked great!

I wish there had been a couple more dessert choices, alongside ice cream with a choice of toppings there was only peanut toffee cheesecake, I can't stand peanuts so that was out! I never really order ice cream as I have really sensitive teeth (what a wimp!), but the promise of cinnamon sugar and doughnuts on top decided it! Steven went for the same and it was actually really nice, the doughnuts were warm and were lovely with the ice cream, I had to waddle to the car after! We had a really nice time here, I think the portion sizes were great, the deal was great and the food really delivered!

  1. I wanted to go here during restaurant week but never got around to it! The food looked great, especially your starter and Simon's main. I love lane 7, you can spend all night there! x
