North East Visits | Christmas at The Fat Hippo

You might remember a few weeks ago I posted about the Halloween Menu at The Fat Hippo, we had a fab meal and I mentioned then I couldn't wait to return for the Christmas menu when it rolled around! It feels like two minutes ago but somehow here we are in December and me and Steven popped along to try out the Christmas burgers! Obviously I checked out the menu beforehand and I was thrilled to see a special veggie option too!

You all know I'm a sucker for a theme and now I'm truly in the Christmas spirit it was nice to see the hippo with their festive decor up, we were primed and ready for some crimbo burger goodness! Steven went for the Chuck Berry burger, like he could resist the meat! (£12.90), this burger was a double 4oz patty, pulled turkey thigh, camembert fritter, spiced cranberry jelly, sweet cure bacon and sprout slaw with chipolata gravy and fries. Have you ever heard of anything so festive?! Steven devoured this burger, he said it was right up there with his favourites, he told me to definitely mention how good the chipolata gravy was!

I went for the Nutcracker (£9.50), this was a root veg hash, chestnut and sage stuffing, Croxton brie fondue, spiced pear chutney, rocket and fries. I love that hippo always include a veggie option and it's never run of the mill, always something interesting. I love that this burger was just like a veggie christmas dinner (not every vegetarian wants tomato pasta when everyone else has a roast, restaurants take note!). Mine was super yummy, full of flavour, the cheese was to die for!

We had such a nice meal here, I think the Jesmond branch is nice and cosy anyway but it was so nice and festive on a cold night. The service here was great, really quick and friendly as always, you can't go wrong with The Fat Hippo, I love places that go the extra mile when it comes to specials throughout the year and here is absolutely no exception!

*Our meal was very kindly complimentary, as always all opinions are my own, I mean those burgers speak for themselves!
