Ouseburn is one of my favourite parts of Newcastle, I think it's probably the trendiest part of the city, think our version of Shoreditch. I've seen a few people mention Ernest in Ouseburn and at the weekend me and my boyfriend thought we would check it out. It's just behind the Biscuit Factory and there are a few street parking spots. Being a huge Star Wars nerd I was sold once I saw the Darth Vader silhouette on the wall outside...that was just the beginning!
We came on a Sunday at about 2pm and the place was pretty much packed although there was another space with tables in the back, so we perched ourselves on one of the long tables with benches. The vibe at Ernest is super chilled and laid back which I love, although having said that the service was great, friendly and really quick! For drinks my boyfriend chose a blood orange San Pellegrino and I went for a cappuccino (which was divine) from the Ouseburn Coffee Co, which couldn't be any more local!
The menu is great, there were so many delicious things I wanted to try, definitely means we will be back! There were loads of great vegetarian options, which for a veggie like me is always a plus. They also do all day brunch which is probably my favourite thing in the world...I went for the Halloumi Hash Bowl, which can also be served with chorizo, it came with pan fried herby potatoes, red onion, spinach, a poached egg and hollandaise mayo, if that doesn't get you drooling I don't know what will! It was so delicious!
Although many veggie options my boyfriend being a firm carnivore was more than happy with his choice, a Philly cheese steak! It came with strips of pan fried rib eye, melted gruyere and cream cheese, grilled onions and peppers in a muffin, with a side salad. My boyfriend couldn't sing enough praises about this, he loved it! I also stole a couple of this sweet potato fries, the spicy mayo spoke to my soul!
The decor was right up my street, a little quirky, I loved the Star Wars figures on display! The meals were really reasonably priced for such delicious food and the portion sizes were just right! They also have lots of events on at night which I definitely want to give a go. I just absolutely loved the vibe there and won't hesitate to return!
Have you been to Ernest?
