I've decided to make a real effort to remember my camera when I go out to places in the North East. Some of my favourite posts to read are about restaurants and places to visit local to me, but it occurred to me I hardly ever blog myself when I go to places! So my post today is about Post Box in Ponteland.

I'm always driving through Ponteland but rarely stop for food etc, but it's a gorgeous little place. I saw Post Box on Twitter and just from the store front I knew it would be right up my street! It's on Main Street and we managed to get parked just around the corner in Waitrose.

After reading the menu online we decided to stop in for breakfast, which is served all day (breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, literally what dreams are made of). We arrived at about 11am and there were plenty seats free. The decor is gorgeous, it's modern meets country with cream walls and lots of brick and wood. We loved the little touches like the postcards on the tables and the flowers, I forgot to photograph the menu like a right willy but it's on their website! We had a cappuccino and a mocha which were standard but still yummy.

For food I went for Post Box Eggs (£8) which was a toasted muffin, pesto, spinach, poached eggs, homemade hollandaise sauce, and roasted halloumi. It was delicious and is different from the normal breakfast choices you tend to get, a great vegetarian choice. My mam went for the Postman's Breakfast (£8) which was a fried egg, smoked bacon, Cumberland sausage, potato sage & cheddar pancake, black pudding, beans, mushroom and a big chunky slice of toast. My mam loved her food too, I think you can tell that they use local and artisan suppliers.

Our bill came to £21, so it isn't the cheapest place for breakfast, definitely a treat but you totally get what you pay for, gorgeous food and they aren't stingy on the portion sizes, I wouldn't hesitate to go back, we had our eyes on the cream tea for our next visit!

Do you have any North East breakfast recommendations?

  1. Looks and sounds lovely. Will have to try it if i'm ever in the area. Scrumpy willow and the singing kettle is a nice place for breakfast in Newcastle town :-)
