Being Vegetarian for a Year | My Thoughts

So last January I eventually decided to take the plunge and become a vegetarian. It's something that I've always wanted to do from being little, I've tried a number of times over the years to cut out meat, but it was just something I could never stick to, I just think I was too young and wasn't really invested completely.

Last year I thought you know what, I'll just give it a go, no pressure and just see what happens, fortunately the longer I went without eating meat, the easier it became. To be honest I've never been a big meat eater, I would only really eat chicken, rarely red meat, I've never eaten lamb or anything cuter like goat or rabbit!

I can honestly say now that I have no desire to ever eat meat again, I've never really had a craving for it. I've discovered a whole new way of eating without meat, I'm a lot less lazy when it comes to cooking and a lot more adventurous. I've discovered some delicious recipes that I never would have if I was still eating meat.

I would never look down on anyone who chooses to eat meat or any way try to force my opinions onto them, I honestly can't stand people who do! My family and boyfriend still continue to eat meat which doesn't bother me. For me, morally I can't justify eating animals anymore, but would never judge those who do.

Here are some little tit bits for anyone who might be thinking about giving up meat -

People will definitely say "What, you don't eat meat?!?" like it's the craziest thing in the world. They will ask questions about why you don't eat meat, just take it with a pinch of salt or ask them why they do! Check restaurant menus before you visit to make sure that they cater for you too! Nearly everywhere has decent vegetarian options these days, but it's good to be on the safe side! Experiment! There are some fab vegetarian cookbooks around, I'd recommend a look in TK Maxx. Don't be afraid to try new things! Don't put to much pressure on yourself, take it day by day!

  1. Great post Katie!
I've been thinking about cutting out meat for a while, I just find myself picking up things that have it in without even thinking like soups etc. I think 2016 is the year I need to make push like you did.

  • I'm so happy to hear being vegetarian is the right choice for you. I'm currently still an occasional meat eater, but I am hoping to go vegetarian in the near future. It's just hard when I still live with my parents who don't really get it! x
