North East Visits | The Jolly Fisherman Craster

When me and Steven have a day together and I ask for his suggestions on where to go, 9/10 he'll say Craster. I think it's a safe bet, gorgeous scenery, a lovely walk up to the castle, and the best part, lunch at The Jolly Fisherman! We've been here a few times but this is the first time I took my camera along for some reason! We've never had a bad meal here and this time certainly didn't disappoint! Perched on a table on the balcony with the most amazing view of the sea and castle, we browsed the menu.

I've had their famous crab sandwiches before which really are great, but I fancied something different this time. I went for the Warm Crab Toasts with Sweetcorn Chowder (£7.95), big chunks of artisan bread smothered with crab and an amazingly creamy flavourful mug of chowder was just what I needed to keep me warm in between the breaks of sun! It was so so good!

Steven went for the The Jolly Fishboard – Crab Pot, fillet of fresh salmon, kipper pate, smoked salmon, prawns and herring role mop, side salad and Local Artisan Bread (£9.95). We've both had this before and it's so delicious, you can't get products fresher than this! Even better with a portion of Beef Dripping Chips (£2.95). The food is so reasonable here for the amazing quality, the service is always really quick and friendly even when they're super busy.

A trip to Craster wouldn't be complete without a coastal walk up to Dunstanburgh Castle. The ruins are like something out of a fairytale set in the most picturesque countryside, complete with grazing sheep and cows! If the harbour wasn't lovely enough, I'd definitely recommend the walk along the sea, even better when the sun shows it's face!

Love the Jolly Fisherman so much and I'm literally counting down the days till the Jolly on the Quayside opens in Newcastle!

I love Craster too - although sometimes I get a little scared walking past the cows.
