Me and my mam are quite the afternoon tea connoisseurs, pretty much every occasion we head off for afternoon tea. Keen to try somewhere new, I booked us in for Mother's Day afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel in Tynemouth. You really can't miss it, it's a beautiful old building with a gorgeous view of the sea. It's recently been refurbished, I always had visions of it looking like the seaside hotel they stay at in The Witches! But after looking at photos it looks lovely inside so we decided to give it a go.

We were originally booked in to have our tea in the Brasserie, but they were running late from being so busy and asked us to wait in the lounge. You can also have your tea in the lounge but can't book in advance. After snagging a lovely table by the window, we asked if we could just have it in there instead, which the staff were happy to accommodate. The lounge was lovely, even had a live piano player! As always I forgot to take a photo of the menu but it was £14.75 per person which I thought was very reasonable!

You're able to pick your sandwiches here which I loved, sometimes being a vegetarian there might only be one sandwich I could have. There were about 6 different choices and you could have 4 different ones if you wanted. I went for egg, cheese and pickle and cream cheese and cucumber. My mam had salmon, cheese and pickle, turkey and cranberry and egg. There were all lovely, really carefully made, all delicious fillings, even came with a salad garnish.

You can also choose which kind of scone you want, instead of getting one cheese and one fruit each and sharing (whoops), we both went for fruit. They were huge, really fluffy and warm. They came with a decent amount of jam and clotted cream, so delicious!

Now to everyones favourite bit, the cakes! We were so impressed with the selection of sweet treats! There were two macarons, one pistachio and and one coffee, really light without being sickly sweet. There was also a slice of carrot cake, and a caramel shortbread which was so tasty! There was also two different types of little mousse type slices, one like chocolate and fruits of the forest and one that was citrusy. They were both delicious, all of the treats were beautifully presented.

How gorgeous is the view over the bay! We had such a lovely time here, the food was lovely and was really made with care. The staff were really nice and friendly and the service was really quick, even took the time to make sure our pot of tea came with the food so it didn't go cold (we've been places where the tea was almost all gone and cold by the time the food came!). I think for the price it's very reasonable, great quality food, service and setting, we wouldn't hesitate to return!

Looks lovely - we had a sort of mini baby shower for my friend at The Grand and enjoyed Afternoon tea in the lounge. It was fab - definitely a beautiful location too.
ReplyDeleteThe afternoon tea has been on my to do list for ages! I once booked it but then there was a Metro closure so I had to cancel. Never got round to rebooking it!
