Blonde Ambition

Read & Reviewed #9

This feels like my first Read & Reviewed post in ages! I've started a new reading challenge for 2016 so I'm sure there'll be lots more of these posts coming soon!

Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan - 4/5
Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a Web-design drone and serendipity coupled with sheer curiosity has landed him a new job working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. And it doesn't take long for Clay to realize that the quiet, dusty book emporium is even more curious than the name suggests. I really enjoyed this book, it's a total page turner and isn't at all what I expected, it's super descriptive and really sets the scene.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Leuithan - 4/5
One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, Will Grayson crosses paths with...Will Grayson. Two guys with the same name, running in two very different circles, suddenly find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, and culminating in epic turns-of-heart and the most fabulous musical ever to grace the high-school stage. I really liked the character development in this book, it made you really care about them, there was plenty humour in this book along with the trials and tribulations of high school.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell - 3/5
As far as time machines go, a magic telephone is pretty useless. TV writer Georgie McCool can't actually visit the past; all she can do is call it, and hope it picks up. Is she going crazy or is this a chance to make things right with her husband, Neal? I found this book charming although a little frustrating at times, I think it's very predictable but the scene was set well and was a nice little read.

  1. Will Grayson is such a gem of a book, it constantly made me laugh out loud! A really good book from both John Green and David Levithan, so it's a shame people never talk about it!!

I'm a little sad you found Rainbow Rowell's Landline disappointing, as I've liked the other stuff of hers that I've read! Keep reading!!

    1. It's so underrated! I've read a couple of her other books and loved them, not sure why I didn't get on with this one as much! :) x
